How to Succeed in Affiliate Marketing Using Keyword Research

Friday, January 8th, 2010

Success in affiliate marketing, as is the case with any field of internet marketing, is dependent on a few fundamentals. Market research, which is to say both keyword research and niche research, is of primary importance.

With the recession making some serious dents in all our personal finances, the idea of making money online has become even more attractive, particularly to those of us with some motivation and business sense. When we begin searching online for possibilities, we come across the term ‘affiliate marketing’ fairly early on. There is far too much information available on the subject, and it can be confusing, but the basic concept is fairly simple. It’s important to clear away much of the fast talk, discover the basics, and begin working on a project of our own, rather than endlessly surfing through the promises and offers.

Market research is an important first step in the process of becoming an affiliate marketer. A good place to start is by researching the markets you are personally interested in. Starting from this point, you need to discover what your potential customers are looking for. This is essentially what “keyword research” comes down to–finding the actual words or phrases people type into their search engines to find answers to their problems, needs, or desires. This is extremely important research, and the outcome of your marketing attempts depends upon it.

By doing this research, finding and utilizing the keywords that buyers are actively entering into the search engines, you will help your websites and landing pages rank higher, and eventually generate a constant stream of organic, targeted traffic. Keyword research doesn’t have to be either difficult or expensive. There are several free keyword research tools available online, and a few free trials of rather expensive, but useful, tools and software as well.

But is not’s necessary to spend money to begin–the Google Keyword Tool, which can be accessed for free by searching for “Google Keyword Tool External,” is a good place to begin. When the page opens, click on ‘descriptive words or phrases,’ enter a keyword or phrase that identifies the product or niche you wish to promote as an affiliate into the appropriate box, and then click on “get keyword ideas” to generate a list of keywords. Scroll through these and look them over.

Gauge the competitiveness of the market by looking at the number of times people are searching for each keyword per month. You’ll likely get some good ideas on how to promote your affiliate product from this list.

Remember, though–competition is a good thing. You want to find a market with existing demand, and products readily available that you can sell as an affiliate marketer. In a market with no competition, you won’t be able to sell anything, either. It’s also probably best at first to stay away from highly competitive areas of the market, as it’s hard to rank highly in those. But it is important to remember that demand must exist or there’s no market for your products.

As an affiliate your marketing costs are not high in monetary terms, but taking the time to do keyword and niche research will save you much wasted time you could have spent marketing products that sell and make you money in your online efforts.

Affiliate marketing, or any sort of selling, online or offline, is based on a few fundamental elements. This hasn’t changed much over the years. Surfing around online, you hear wild promises of ’secret’ or ‘insider’ tricks and tweaks that can only be learned by buying this ebook or that course. Believe me–I’ve spent more money than I want to think about chasing unfulfilled promises. Not that there isn’t good information on offer, too. But it’s only when I bent my head to the task of learning about keyword research and market research that I began to see some results. Start with the basics–and you’ll succeed.

You must love the things you hate to succeed online

When I get up in the morning the first thing I ask myself is “what are 5 things I have to do today to gain more traffic to my website”. All 5 are things that I just hate to perform.

Why would I hate them? Because I am lazy and I would rather go the beach and do nothing. I want the shortest road, the quick way, the get rich by doing nothing.

You know, the lazy mans way to riches.

Well I spent a lot of time hoping that things would just happen without any work. This brings me back to the things I hate to do but are a must if you want to succeed at making money online.

I have made a conscious switch in my mind that the things I hate to do I now love. The 5 things I love to perform each day are….

1. Writing and submitting informative articles are now the top task I love to perform each day. I found a simple strategy to help me pump out 5 articles each day. When I start I will take my topic for the day, “link building” , “free traffic”, “article marketing” and then search on google for information about this topic. Once I find a nice article or press release I will read it and then add 5 bullet points to my text editor about that article. From there I just start typing, not worrying about how bad my spelling or grammar is. With this I can type out a nice 500 word article in about 15 minutes. And this is good fresh content that I can post to articles directories.

2. Twitter and Facebook are 2 website that you must start to love. These sites are the place that “ALL” people on the internet hang out. This is the best place to drop a few lines of text and add in a link back to your website. Love em or hate em, these sites have massive amounts of traffic.

3. Everyday I love to update my personal blog and all the other free blogs. My personal blog is profitsbox.com and I like to use wordpress.com and blogger.com. Both are free and they will let you take your new article and add it to there site. With your link at the bottom… of course.

4. What I hate the most but I fight thru it, and now I love is answering questions on yahoo. Why do I hate it, well because I want to be on the beach and not answering question on yahoo. But doing this will get you some big time traffic back to your site. Try and be the first to answer a question and add your link as the source.

5. What I really do love the most is posting on forums. This is a place that I can talk with like minded people who share my comment interest. And its a place that I can promote my websites. The signature at the bottom of each post has my link back to my site, so the more I post the more my link shows up. I try and set a goal that I will respond to at least 10 new threads each day.

Can you believe it? These are the things I hate to love each day. What I find so funny is I struggle to get them done and they only take about 1 hour out of my day. But once I am done then I have the rest of the day to go and play at the beach.

You Can’t be _ to Succeed in Article Marketing

Curious to find out what the word is? Read on…

If you want to succeed in article marketing, you cannot be calculative. The word is calculative. What does it mean? Let me explain further.

When we say someone is ‘calculative’, it means that they are expecting every single return they ought to receive base on what they give out, usually instantly.

This means that if they give out a 50%, they expect a 50% return. Admittedly, that’s not always the case in article marketing for 2 good reasons.

1. The results you see might not come in the form you desire. If you are calculative, article marketing would just disappoint you because the results you see may not come in the form you want.

Instead of driving traffic to your website according to your initial intention for the article, the article might end up merely explaining what you’ve written in your previous articles.

Along the same time, you can only tell what your readers want exactly after you’ve spent enough time researching the needs of the market. And during the time of your research, if you’re too calculative and you expect to reap

2. The results you get usually come only after some time. Reaping instant results is just not something you can get overnight unless you already possess a list of publishers or readers hungry for your content.

It takes some time to write an article, lots of time to get it published and lots of effort in marketing the article (that’s why it’s called article marketing).

The bottomline is that to excel in article marketing, you must give first.

Trust that over time, your results will come in little by little. Practise patience and allow time and article marketing to work for you. Understand that readers need time to read the article, rave about it and promote your article to their fellow friends.

7 Reasons Why You Won’t Succeed With Article Marketing

Tuesday, December 15th, 2009

1. You are not willing to give what it takes to succeed in article marketing. Article writing takes a tremendous amount of time and effort. On your initial article writing experiences, you’ll probably use up all your ‘brain juice’ just by thinking of the perfect article to write.

2. You try too hard to write the ‘perfect’ article. You tend to delete more than what you type into your computer. Realize that there’s no such thing as a ‘perfect’ article. And even if there is, the ability to write good articles is only bestowed upon you after you accumulate sufficient writing experience over a period of time. In my opinion, the best articles are those that are written. Don’t you agree?

3. You are too impatient. Article marketing, like planting a seed, takes time to blossom and produce results (the fruit). If you are the kind of person who expects instant gratitification and results, do yourself a huge favour – Give article marketing a miss. You’ll probably not last long enough to reap what you have sown.

4. You write poorly. Grammatical, punctuation and spelling errors often appear from your articles. Such articles make you look less professional – it kills your reputation rather than make it, it gives readers a bad impression rather than a good one.

5. You use sophisticated words in your article to look ‘professional’. Now, understand that you do not have to use extraordinary words to produce an extraordinary article. In fact, research has shown that most readers have an average 6th grader’s level of English. What this means is the more sophisticated words you use in your articles, the lesser the people who can understand and appreciate what you’ve written. Write simply so people can extract the essence of your articles quickly and easily. That’s more important than looking ‘professional’. Know what I mean?

6. You merely rewrite the content of existing articles. Believe me when I say readers can tell when they are reading quality articles or junk articles filled to the brink with repetitive content. Don’t waste your readers’ time with recycled content. One trick you can use, however, is to provide more examples to build upon the main ideas. This approach simplifies the content, allowing your readers to understand easier and quicker. Thus, saving them valuable time. They’ll love you for it.

7. You never finish writing an article. Article marketing works – on the one condition that you allow it to. By not finish writing your article in entirety, you not only rob your readers the opportunity to learn from you. You also rob yourself of the opportunity to experience the level of success you deserve in article marketing.

Statistics show that less than 10% of the people complete reading a book they have bought. I believe this applies to writing an article too.

Remember that article marketing requires article writing as the first step. You can’t progress until you complete writing the article you plan to.

How To Succeed In Any Affiliate Program

Saturday, December 12th, 2009

The dream of most people who are familiar with the Internet is to be able to earn a steady and sustainable income from home. Home based online business is not only possible; it is realizable, less stressful, with potentials for six figure incomes. Some people have found the right ways to build an online business, have taken some time to develop it, and are now earning six figure incomes right from the comfort of their homes. These people are called netpreneurs. They are now making quick and easy money from the Internet. You can become a successful netpreneur too.

Having a successful online business has many advantages. When you become a netpreneur, you become you own boss. You are forever shielded from all the hassle, pain and discomfort of working 9 – 5 to make someone else rich! You have enough time, money and freedom to live the live you ever wanted. So how do you become a successful netpreneur?

1. You need a web presence.

In order to have a successful online business, you must have some kind of presence or platform on the NET. You need a professionally designed website. This may not be readily affordable by most people who are just starting out. You may think of getting a free website with some sites that offer free site design and hosting services.

The alternative, which I also prefer, especially for beginners is to get a free blog. Blogs are less complex to organize, very easy to manage and more easily updated than a website.

You will be using your website or blog as a landing page for your product. A landing page is a “presell” page that is used to prepare or condition your prospective customers to really think twice before clicking away to exit from your site. It is much better than introducing them directly to the sales page of the product. You could also plug your Google AdSense codes to your site and earn extra income from AdSense, which would be lost if your prospects land straight on the sales page.

You can sign up for one in less than a minute at Google’s Blogger.com.

2. You need a product to sell

Contrary to what most people would say that you do not have to sell anything to succeed online, the truth is that you invariably have to sell something to earn some fast money online. The Internet is a huge marketplace with avid buyers who have their credit cards near their laptops as they browse for things to buy. People need information to solve various personal problems and satisfy particular needs. To tap into this huge marketplace, you have to find out what people are looking for and deliver it to their doorsteps just like the milkman or the newspaper vendor.

Think of the millions of people that visit eBay, Amazon and other online stores everyday! Think of the other millions that search for information on search engine monsters like Google, Yahoo, MSN and their buddies. Those visitors are your potential customers! Real hot targets!!

3. You need to send traffic to your website or blog

A site without traffic is like a “For Sale” item that is displayed in black box. To be able to work from home and make extra money online, you have to let people know about your web presence. You must advertise your site both online and offline. Offline advertisement may not be necessary if you know the right places and methods of generating traffic to a site online.

Put some money aside for buying traffic if need be. Be sure to try free traffic methods such as search engine optimization, article marketing, forum signature, manual traffic exchanges, connecting with social bookmark sites, etc, before you think of spending a dime on paid traffic.

4. Educate yourself about what you want to do

There are many online business opportunities, ranging from affiliate marketing, multi-level marketing programs, ads publishing (including Google AdSense), running stores on eBay and Amazon, day trading (forex, stocks, futures, options, commodities), paid-per-click programs, online surveys, etc. To really succeed, you must spend some time to learn the basics of your intended program.

The mistake most starters make is to jump right into a program after reading some often exaggerated stories by the hawkers or affiliates of the program. After spending too much time and money often with poor traffic generating methods, they give up the program and run into another. Hence they lack the essential ingredient of persistence, which is the sustaining force driving any successful online business. It is good to be thoroughly acquainted with the rudiments of any business program before you fully commit your recourses to it. Use the search engines to rake up every possible thing you can find on your intended program. Get a mentor if you can afford to.

5. Devote enough resources to your online business

Like any endeavor, your success depends to a large extent on your readiness to make some personal sacrifices to keep your online business afloat. You should devote the necessary resources to it. Make out some time daily to attend to the demands of your online business. You should be ready to work at odd hours if that is what it takes to succeed online.

Conclusion

Six figure income is not only possible, it is realizable. All it takes is a website, a product in hot demand (and there are quite a lot of them), targeted traffic to let people know where to find what they are searching for, and devotion of the necessary resources to the business resulting from an unreserved commitment to succeed.

Small Changes Equal Big Results, How The 2% Succeed Online…

Friday, December 4th, 2009

It’s no great secret… 97 – 98% of all newly launched websites fail to thrive…or worse simply die… But what makes the remaining 2-3% so successful?

The answer may not be as complicated as you think.

Its not flashy web design, it’s not high priced, pay per click, or even your outstanding SEO skills …… it’s definitely not luck …

When I started in business, I really thought business was about numbers and markets, now of course I realize, it’s actually about people.

Yes, you need (at least), a basic understanding of business, but the fact remains, people are motivated to buy and like to buy, in definite ways, whatever the product.

High traffic volume is important to success online, (and I can show you how to get it!).

The more visitors you have to your site, the more opportunities to make a sale…nothing new there!

But equally important, if not more so, is an understanding of how people like to buy, and why we’re on the internet in the first place.

In the online world, nobody just happens by your store!  Surfers on the net are not looking for you or your business… they’re occupied in opinion forming, and decision making, and to help them reach this goal, they need  one thing above all others! – have you guessed it?  Yep… information or rather, relevant Information…ether it’s from you or it’s from somebody else…but the whole quest is about …getting the  I-n-f-o-r-m-a-t-i-o-n!

Providing this high value relevant information or content puts you ahead in the game, and should be your primary intent. In short, stop selling…and start informing.  Produce confidence in your offer by … PRE –selling with content….

So many small businesses fail to thrive, simply because they prepare websites to sell and collect money, long before they’ve provided what the visitor really wants…  which off course is… Information that provides solutions. It’s the old adage, Fist you give then you receive, first you sow then you reap…

The point is we really don’t like being sold stuff… but we do like to buy, particularly when we feel the idea’s our own, based on information we’ve uncovered while out searching! Small difference… Big reward(s)!

The 2%, succeed by building targeted, interested traffic, first, (by providing high value content that visitors are already searching for, and that Search Engines love).

Then PREselling or warming up those visitors with excellent theme-based content related to the product or service, by so doing, building trust and an “open-to-buy” mindset. Only then… do they introduce benefit-focused sales copy to convert “PREsold” visitors into enthusiastic customers.

Join the 2%! PREsell, with information-packed content, and then sell with benefit-focused sales copy… Learn more, grab yourself a free 48 page e-copy of The Simple Art of e-Persuasion by Ken Evoy at the info link below.
