Keyword research is the foundation of all Internet marketing. It is the lynch pin, if you will, off all your online efforts. Done right, it can help ensure a prosperous future for you and your company, with lots of target prospects, a growing client list and no limit for the future.
Do it wrong, however and you will find that business growth will be slow, if almost non-existent, due to not targeting the right market. Factor in money you may spend on Google AdWords and you may actually lose more money than you make, if you don’t take the time to set things up right.
That being said, what do we mean when we talk about keyword research? What it is is a form of market research. You are trying to discover what problems people are having and what they are buying. Once you know this you can effectively offer a solution to your target market.
There are two types of keyword research. Each depend on your specific goals. For instance, let’s say you’re dissatisfied with the current offerings for acne cures. What you do in this case is go to the Google keyword tool and do a search for the term. Once you’ve seen the results, you do a related search for phrases (in quotes). What you are looking for is daily searches of at least 50 and monthly searches of no more than 10,000.
The Google keyword tool will also help you decide on your AdWords campaign by telling you how much you can expect to pay per click. Done right, you can get targeted traffic for very cheap (in some cases $.05 a click).
But there is another method of keyword research. If you’ve got a site and want to monetize your traffic (essentially make money off of your visitors) you join what is called the Google Adsense program. In this program, Google will look at your site and come up with ads relevant to your copy. You place the ads and when someone clicks, you get paid. The method is the same as before except this time you want your keywords to reflect a high bid price, the higher the better as this is what you’ll get paid per click.
Ideally, keyword research should be done before any sales copy for your site is written. By doing this, you can ensure a relevant ranking. It should be the main focal point should you decide to go into Web 2.0 properties (such as blogs) to help bolster traffic. Google loves WordPress blogs and a blog that is keyword optimized with rank high in a very short space of time and will drive targeted traffic to your site.
As was said before, keyword research is the foundation of a good Internet marketing strategy as it is a simple way of ensure you get your product or service in front of the right market and ensures a never ending supply of ready to buy customers.

Keyword Density
It is usually suggested to find 1 – 3 keywords for your content, but extensive research is required to find out which keyword is most searched for, after all its no point of optimizing your website for the keywords that no-one is searching for. So make sure you do your paperwork and jot down which keywords are most searched for and with less competition. Write as many keywords you think of, don’t just limit them. You should be able to build up several phrases from them. While thinking of any keyword search think about following
List down the purpose of your website. You will definitely find some words here.
What would you type in the search engine if you want to find out your website?
You can use Overture for your keyword research. This tool not only shows you how many searches have been made for a given keyword in past month but all shows you several alternatives for that keyword. The other keyword research tool I can suggest of is WORDTRACKER. Although they require subscription, but OVERTURE is completely free. Search engines like Google also provides with good recommendation tool although it does not indicate any popularity.
Measuring Competition for Keywords
After you are done with your and short listed all phrases it’s now time to find out the competition involved with them. The best way to analyze competition is go to any search engine and type your keyword. This will show you number of results return.
In order to make this task easier use paper-based or excel worksheet as done below:

Likewise repeat the same procedure for your other phrases. This will help you to do various comparisons between several key terms and select the best niche keyword.
Applying Keywords to your content
Make sure to keep 3-4% of keyword density. Use your keywords as following in the body of your webpage content:
Title Tag: Title tag content is displayed on your browser’s title. You can use about 70 – 80 characters here. Make sure to use good combination of you keywords here separated by ‘|’. For example for our “keyword research articles” keyword we can use Keyword Research Articles | Keyword Analysis | Keyword Optimization.
Meta Description Tag: Write meta tag description of about 200-250 words include you most relevant keywords.
Header Tags: Always use your main keyword in h1 tag and combination of your keywords in h2 tag. h1 can be used as headings and h2 can be used as sub-headings.
Body Tag: This is where you spread you keywords. Make sure you have at least 300 words in your body content where you use you keywords in the first 25 and last 25 words of the body tag.
Img Alt Tag: If you are using images always provide alt attribute which shows your keywords.
Anchor Tag: Text appearing for any link is called anchor tag. This has high relevance in any search engine.
Webpage name: Having keyword name as part of you webpage name is also very important.

Search engine rankings are an important factor to consider when you have a website that needs more traffic. If your website doesn’t have a good position in the rankings then no-one will find it, so you need to make sure that your website is ranked highly enough to be seen. The other important quality to getting high traffic to your site is having a nice arsenal of links. The more links that you have to your site the more traffic you will get, but also, the more links to your site the more search engines like your site. Keeping a nice supply of links pointing at your site requires similar precautions and practices as getting high search engine listings.
Although no SEO company can guarantee a high ranking for your site, here are some tips for raising your search engine ranking. Using these tips will not get you to the top unless your site is the best out there, but they will at least put you into the positioning that you truly deserve. After all, the internet is basically a free market. You will naturally flow into the place that you deserve and many search engines try to insure that you do not rise above or fall below this position. This is why they are so strict, and this is why you must keep yourself on good terms with them.
1) Content is an important factor in high search engine rankings. Make sure that you have plenty of content throughout your site with your target keywords in the articles. It’s also worth doing a search for websites similar to yours and taking a look at their articles for ideas. The more content you have the better. It is generally a good idea to have between three hundred and five hundred words per page, but more important than a quantity of content is the quality of the content that you are providing. You cannot just put out three hundred words of jargon and expect your visitors to find it interesting and stick around for the long haul.
2) Your website’s URL can help you rank higher with the search engines if it contains your keywords. However, don’t think that naming your site after your keywords will always help your rankings – you need to do more than just that.
3) Search terms should be written out in text, instead of graphics. If you do use pictures, be sure to give them alt tags. The alt tags in your pictures are almost as important as text. It’s also a good idea to put some of your key words in links to other pages. In the eyes of a search engine it is almost as good to have a link to a page full of the content that the visitor is looking for as it is to have the content that the visitor is looking for on your page. If a visitor is looking for something that you are linking to and he or she finds your page, they may look around your site on the way through.
4) The title of your page is very important, and making sure that you choose it wisely will make a big difference. Terms such ‘free article on safe children’s toys’, or ‘contact the children’s toy expert today’ are good to use as titles, for example – they would get you a high ranking. The title area is the most important place to include your keyword phrases, so make sure that you put them all in.
5) The navigation menu that appears on each page of your website should include your page’s title.
6) Don’t just use the most popular keyword phrases – the market is so competitive that you should be sure to include some niche keywords too.
7) Make sure that you don’t have a lot of irrelevant links on your site. The more closely related to your site your links are, the better your chances of being ranked in a higher position.
You need to periodically update the content of your website, even if it’s only a slight change, as websites like sites that are kept updated.
9) You need to consider the fact most search engines don’t like automatic submissions or multiple submissions – submit once, manually.
10) Always be on the look out for SEO news – staying up to date and using the latest techniques will help you stay one step ahead of your competition.

Having said that we still feel that a bit more of refining could have been done to the projects. We felt that there was a slight overlap in a few projects. In addition to this the “Content page generation” has been retained the way it was in Keyword Elite 1.0, which could have been improved.

Ease of Use -
This is where our Keyword Elite 2.0 review fell in love with the tool. The earlier version of KE took almost an hour to generate about 3500 keywords but Keyword Elite 2.0 generates the same amount of keywords in about 5 minutes. The tool is extremely fast and users of the earlier version will find it much more easier to use it. Fo the others, there is a handy owners manual included with the tool which explains all of the projects and settings in detail.

If you have a website then you already know the importance of traffic. Traffic is to Internet marketing as location is to real estate. It’s the only thing that really matters. If you cannot generate targeted visitors to your site, you will not make any sales.
Usually the owner or designer of the website is the person designated to drive traffic to the site. The chief ingredient in generating traffic is the search engine. Of coarse, you can use advertising, but it’s going to cost you. Using the search engines to generate targeted (interested in your product) traffic is the least expensive method known.
Unfortunately, many website owners do not understand the importance of search engine visibility, which leads to traffic. They place more importance on producing a “pretty” website. Not that this is bad, but it is really secondary to search engine placement. Hopefully, the following list of common mistakes, made by many website owners, will help you generate more targeted traffic to your site…after all, isn’t that what you want.
1. Not using keywords effectively.
This is probably one of the most critical area of site design. Choose the right keywords and potential customers will find your site. Use the wrong ones and your site will see little, if any, traffic.
2. Repeating the same keywords.
When you use the same keywords over and over again (called keyword stacking) the search engines may downgrade (or skip) the page or site.
3. Robbing pages from other websites.
How many times have you heard or read that “this is the Internet and it’s ok” to steal icons and text from websites to use on your site. Don’t do it. Its one thing to learn from others who have been there and another to outright copy their work. The search engines are very smart and usually detect page duplication. They may even prevent you from ever being listed by them.
4. Using keywords that are not related to your website.
Many unethical website owners try to gain search engine visibility by using keywords that have nothing at all to do with their website. They place unrelated keywords in a page (such as “sex”, the name of a known celebrity, the hot search topic of the day, etc.) inside a meta tag for a page. The keyword doesn’t have anything to do with the page topic. However, since the keyword is popular, they think this will boost their visibility. This technique is considered spam by the search engines and may cause the page (or sometimes the whole site) to be removed from the search engine listing.
5. Keyword stuffing.
Somewhat like keyword stacking listed above, this means to assign multiple keywords to the description of a graphic or layer that appears on your website by using the “alt=” HTML parameter. If the search engines find that this text does not really describe the graphic or layer it will be considered spam.
6. Relying on hidden text.
You might be inclined to think that if you cannot see it, it doesn’t hurt. Wrong…. Do not try to hide your keywords or keyword phrases by making them invisible. For example, some unethical designers my set the keywords to the same color as the background of the web page; thereby, making it invisible.
7. Relying on tiny text.
This is another version of the item above (relying on hidden text). Do not try to hide your keywords or keyword phrases by making them tiny. Setting the text size of the keywords so small that it can barely be seen does this.
8. Assuming all search engines are the same.
Many people assume that each search engine plays by the same rules. This is not so. Each has their own rule base and is subject to change anytime they so desire. Make it a point to learn what each major search engine requires for high visibility.
9. Using free web hosting.
Do not use free web hosting if you are really serious about increasing site traffic via search engine visibility. Many times the search engines will eliminate content from these free hosts.
10. Forgetting to check for missing web page elements.
Make sure to check every page in your website for completeness, like missing links, graphics, etc. There are sites on the web that will do this for free.
This is just a few of the methods and techniques that you should avoid. Do not give in to the temptation that these methods will work for you. They will do more harm than good for your website.
Not only will you spend weeks of wasted effort, you may have your site banned from the search engines forever. Invest a little time to learn the proper techniques for increasing search engine visibility and your net traffic will increase.

“There are a lot of methods to driving targeted traffic to websites. One commonly overlooked method for getting free traffic to websites is writing affiliate marketing articles. Unfortunately, this is even more true for affiliate marketers who are trying to siphon traffic to their sites.
In this article, I am going to give you a brief outline for writing affiliate marketing articles. This will put you head and shoulders over your competition that will post affiliate marketing articles without caring about how they are written.
1. Don’t try to write the perfect affiliate marketing article. Frequently, when writing affiliate marketing articles, people tend to “overthink” the article writing process and think they are writing Shakespeare or are rivaling Stephen King. Thankfully, you don’t have to have a Masters degree in English to write excellent affiliate marketing articles. All you need to do is write in an interesting way that conveys the information.
2. Make sure your keywords are placed in the affiliate marketing article frequently. Ideally, when writing affiliate marketing articles, you’ll want to sprinkle your target keyword into the article. The ideal place for inserting your target keyword is the headline, the first paragraph of your article, and the last paragraph. Be careful not to “keyword stuff” your articles— the search engines can pick up on that really quickly and penalize you in short order.
3. Make sure you have a call to action in your affiliate marketing article. AT the end of the article, you want to have a call to action that refers them to a website for more information. Ideally, you want this to be the “money site” or the affiliate site where the person can buy the product.
4. Make your affiliate marketing article informative. You must make sure that your affiliate marketing article makes the reader feel good that they read it. They must learn something or feel like your affiliate marketing article was worthwhile if you want them to check on your “call to action button:” to your affiliate page. If you just have an article the wastes the reader’s time, they are not going to request further information from you.
5. Make sure you are not too “salesy” in your article. When writing affiliate marketing articles, you don’t want to write a sales-letter. Articles are supposed to be a “soft sell” that nudges them toward a buying decision. Be sure to remove “salesy” language such as “ground-breaking,”breakthrough,” and “cutting edge.” Also remove the pronoun “You” so it looks like it is informing a wide audience—and not a sales letter that speaks directly to a single person.
Writing affiliate marketing articles also gives you a perfect change to get free traffic to you’re website. Why is that? Since you are usually getting a percentage of total sales (around 50% for most information products) it limits how much you can spend on common advertising methods such as pay-per-click and banner advertising. Writing affiliate marketing articles that subtly promote your affiliate product or service can reap huge dividends for your affiliate marketing efforts.

One need to choose those keywords that are frequently searched for and which is in high demand, but not being already used by many other websites and competitors, and thus has low competition. There are a number of keyword research tools that can help you find them.
Apart from the Wordtracker which was already discussed in another article, we have some more equally important research tools like the Overture, Google AdWords Keyword and Guidebeam.
Overture’s http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion/ keyword suggestion tool is free and much quicker to use than Wordtracker. It works more like the Wordtracker but doesn’t tell you how many websites are targeting each keyword phrase. For example if you type ‘Computer’, the Overture search suggestion tool will tell you that during the last month the word ‘Computer’ was searched, say for example 459550 times at Overture.Com. Similarly ‘computer game’ was searched 302210 times. Also, given one word it will tell you all relevant combinations of that word, which are based on actual searches done by people. If the word you keyed in is not a common search term then you will not get any results. It means that very few people have actually searched for that word during the last month.
Even Google Keyword Tool generates potential keywords for your ad campaign and reports their Google statistics, including search performance and seasonal trends. Features of this tool include,
Sorting the results of your desired keyword search by popularity, past performance history within the AdWords system, cost, and predicted ad position.
Easy keyword manipulation where you can select a few keywords here and there or add them all at once.

4) The title of your page is very important, and making sure that you choose it wisely will make a big difference. Terms such ‘free article on safe children’s toys’, or ‘contact the children’s toy expert today’ are good to use as titles, for example – they would get you a high ranking. The title area is the most important place to include your keyword phrases, so make sure that you put them all in.
5) The navigation menu that appears on each page of your website should include your page’s title.
6) Don’t just use the most popular keyword phrases – the market is so competitive that you should be sure to include some niche keywords too.
7) Make sure that you don’t have a lot of irrelevant links on your site. The more closely related to your site your links are, the better your chances of being ranked in a higher position.

If you have some experience in using Google Adwords, you know that the KEY to Adwords success is finding and using the right keywords. But question is how do you find the right keywords? The answer is with Adwords Keyword Research Tool.

1. Create a keyword list.

Project 1 is creating a keyword list. There are many adwords keyword research tools available in the market that can help you develop a keyword list. What Keyword Elite does is combining all the results from these tools (such as Overture, Google suggestion tool, Yahoo!, Ask and Meta Tags) and put them into one alphabetized spreadsheet. And if you have subscriptions for Wordtracker and KeywordDiscovery, you can add and combine the results as well.
You can do all these manually but it will take up a lot of your time as you need to use each tool individually. With Keyword Elite, you just enter your seed keyword, select the search engines you want to get results from and hit the OK button. You can select how many results to return anywhere from 100 to 10,000 keywords. It’s a real time saver as you can develop hundreds or even thousands of keywords in just few minutes. Project 2 will show you some interesting data. It lets you see ads and keywords that are currently being used by your competitors. You can see the actual URLs, what ads are being run, the rankings, bid amount, and other important statistics. You use this information to spy and learn from your competitors. Pick out the top 10 competitors, study their rankings, write better ads and out-bid them. You can do all these manually but it probably takes several days. With Keyword Elite, all this information is available in just few minutes. Again, it’s a real time saver.
Project 3 gives you the ability to generate your keyword list from from existing Keyword Elite’s database. If your niche subject already has a keyword list developed, you will have your list generated in a flash, just enter the key term and half of your keyword research is done. It’s as simple as that.
Project 4 gives you another way to spy on the competition. Here you put in the keyword you want to analyze and request Keyword Elite to show all the sites that are advertising for the keyword. You can request up to 100 sites but normally I just request for the top 10 sites. It will provide information such as PageRank, number of words, keyword density, etc. You can use the information to analyze why these sites are at the top, what are the things they’ve done right to achieve top spot and optimize your own website to achieve the same result. So far I haven’t seen any adwords keyword research tool that can provide such in-depth information.
Project 5 will help any Adwords advertisers to become successful. As mentioned the key to Google Adwords success is to bid on the profitable keywords. BUT problem is… how do you know what keywords are profitable? Here you can request Keyword Elite to run a report that shows you the number of days a particular keyword has been bid on. The longer that keyword is being bid on means it’s more profitable. You can run the report for days, weeks or whenever you want to see if that keyword is still being bid on.

Search engines are the vehicles that drive potential customers to your websites. But in order for visitors to reach their destination – your website – you need to provide them with specific and effective signs that will direct them right to your site. You do this by creating carefully chosen keywords.
Think of the right keywords as the Open Sesame! of the Internet. Find the exactly right words or phrases, and presto! hoards of traffic will be pulling up to your front door. But if your keywords are too general or too over-used, the possibility of visitors actually making it all the way to your site – or of seeing any real profits from the visitors that do arrive – decreases dramatically.
Your keywords serve as the foundation of your marketing strategy. If they are not chosen with great precision, no matter how aggressive your marketing campaign may be, the right people may never get the chance to find out about it. So your first step in plotting your strategy is to gather and evaluate keywords and phrases.
You probably think you already know EXACTLY the right words for your search phrases. Unfortunately, if you haven’t followed certain specific steps, you are probably WRONG. It’s hard to be objective when you are right in the center of your business network, which is the reason that you may not be able to choose the most efficient keywords from the inside. You need to be able to think like your customers. And since you are a business owner and not the consumer, your best bet is to go directly to the source.
Instead of plunging in and scribbling down a list of potential search words and phrases yourself, ask for words from as many potential customers as you can. You will most likely find out that your understanding of your business and your customers’ understanding is significantly different.
The consumer is an invaluable resource. You will find the words you accumulate from them are words and phrases you probably never would have considered from deep inside the trenches of your business.
Only after you have gathered as many words and phrases from outside resources should you add your own keyword to the list. Once you have this list in hand, you are ready for the next step: evaluation.
The aim of evaluation is to narrow down your list to a small number of words and phrases that will direct the highest number of quality visitors to your website. By “quality visitors” I mean those consumers who are most likely to make a purchase rather than just cruise around your site and take off for greener pastures. In evaluating the effectiveness of keywords, bear in mind three elements: popularity, specificity, and motivation.
Popularity is the easiest to evaluate because it is an objective quality. The more popular your keyword is, the more likely the chances are that it will be typed into a search engine which will then bring up your URL.
You can now purchase software that will rate the popularity of keywords and phrases by giving words a number rating based on real search engine activity. Software such as WordTracker will even suggest variations of your words and phrases. The higher the number this software assigns to a given keyword, the more traffic you can logically expect to be directed to your site. The only fallacy with this concept is the more popular the keyword is, the greater the search engine position you will need to obtain. If you are down at the bottom of the search results, the consumer will probably never scroll down to find you.
Popularity isn’t enough to declare a keyword a good choice. You must move on to the next criteria, which is specificity. The more specific your keyword is, the greater the likelihood that the consumer who is ready to purchase your goods or services will find you.
Let’s look at a hypothetical example. Imagine that you have obtained popularity rankings for the keyword “automobile companies.” However, you company specializes in bodywork only. The keyword “automobile body shops” would rank lower on the popularity scale than “automobile companies,” but it would nevertheless serve you much better. Instead of getting a slew of people interested in everything from buying a car to changing their oil filters, you will get only those consumers with trashed front ends or crumpled fenders being directed to your site. In other words, consumers ready to buy your services are the ones who will immediately find you. Not only that, but the greater the specificity of your keyword is, the less competition you will face.
The third factor is consumer motivation. Once again, this requires putting yourself inside the mind of the customer rather than the seller to figure out what motivation prompts a person looking for a service or product to type in a particular word or phrase. Let’s look at another example, such as a consumer who is searching for a job as an IT manager in a new city. If you have to choose between “Seattle job listings” and “Seattle IT recruiters” which do you think will benefit the consumer more? If you were looking for this type of specific job, which keyword would you type in? The second one, of course! Using the second keyword targets people who have decided on their career, have the necessary experience, and are ready to enlist you as their recruiter, rather than someone just out of school who is casually trying to figure out what to do with his or her life in between beer parties.
You want to find people who are ready to act or make a purchase, and this requires subtle tinkering of your keywords until your find the most specific and directly targeted phrases to bring the most motivated traffic to you site.
Once you have chosen your keywords, your work is not done. You must continually evaluate performance across a variety of search engines, bearing in mind that times and trends change, as does popular lingo. You cannot rely on your log traffic analysis alone because it will not tell you how many of your visitors actually made a purchase.
Luckily, some new tools have been invented to help you judge the effectiveness of your keywords in individual search engines. There is now software available that analyzes consumer behavior in relation to consumer traffic. This allows you to discern which keywords are bringing you the most valuable customers.
This is an essential concept: numbers alone do not make a good keyword; profits per visitor do. You need to find keywords that direct consumers to your site who actually buy your product, fill out your forms, or download your product. This is the most important factor in evaluating the efficacy of a keyword or phrase, and should be the sword you wield when discarding and replacing ineffective or inefficient keywords with keywords that bring in better profits.
Ongoing analysis of tested keywords is the formula for search engine success. This may sound like a lot of work – and it is! But the amount of informed effort you put into your keyword campaign is what will ultimately generate your business’ rewards.
