“How to make money online!” You see and hear that a lot. Do a search with that exact phrase and see how many results you get. It will boggle your mind. Also do a video search using the same phrase and you will be astounded at how many videos there are on You Tube under that same or similar phrase.
So you want to make money online? You may have thought often about it. You ‘hate the job you are in’, ‘can’t stand the boss’, or need some ‘passive income’ and want to ‘make money while you sleep’. All of these are the kinds of things you read about and are promoted vigorously when you start to investigate the many and varied ways on how to make money online.
Money can be made online, and there are a few who are making lots of it. But there are a great many times those numbers who are not. Unless you are a big company you are most likely to be an individual looking and hoping to find a way to generate an income online. For the sake of this argument let’s stick to individual marketers and eliminate the big companies.
It is true that there is an almost unlimited potential for individuals to make money on the Internet if they work smart and work hard. If you are serious, in it for the ‘long haul’, and happen to be a novice and know next to nothing about it, it is not going to be easy unless you are really lucky. But it can be done.
You must learn the following skills, work hard at perfecting them, and persevere until you make it, and – it is going to cost you some startup capital. Don’t believe all the hype about how to make millions without it – you have to spend money to make money.
The first thing you are going to have to learn is website development. You must have a fast computer to start, so you are not slowed down while you learn, and when you finally pick up web mastering skills. There are lots of web development products on the market, but there is only one great product that has almost all the bases covered – Adobe Dreamweaver. It syncs with the other essential Adobe products designed for the webmaster – Photoshop, Flash, etc.
The second thing you must learn is what product or products you want to market online. Some online marketers go in the direction of an online mall and market a large variety of products. Others on the other hand swear by niche – spoken like quiche – the egg dish, for it is a French word; and not ‘nitch’, like switch – although many do say it the wrong way in the USA. Niche marketing is where you narrow it down to just one product in one particular field. This allows you to focus your efforts and reduce your spending on advertising. And, it shortens your frustration period before you have your first success at online income.
The third thing you must learn is how to write articles. Lots of them! And, how to market them to the e-zine sites, especially the better ones. Be aware that each e-zine site has their own particular standards and unique ways of submitting articles. Start with the most popular sites first. Why article marketing? Article marketing is a must because the Internet and the search engine’s are ‘word driven’. Articles draw the search engines attention and ultimately the attention of potential buyers. This is called traffic, and traffic + conversions = sales, and that means money for you!
The fourth thing you must learn is S.E.O or Search Engine Optimization. Without this knowledge you are dead in the water of the ‘big pond’ we call the Internet. In fact, the first three things spoken of earlier in this piece are also part of the S.E.O. formula. There are many nuances but the main thing in S.E.O. is keywords and key phrases, so learn as much as you can about them – and become an expert, because as already mentioned the search engines are ‘word driven’. They are the gatekeepers, and if you don’t please their algorithmic mathematical formulas they use they won’t direct people through the gates of their search engines to your website and ultimately to a sale.
The fifth thing you must know is Video Production. There are great videos, good videos, and lots and lots of bad videos out there on the World Wide Web. Just go to You Tube and see for yourself. To make good videos you need to invest in good equipment like a high definition camera, and not just a web cam. Invest in professional editing software or your production values are going to look cheap. You don’t have to be a Hollywood producer to do good video, but don’t present yourself as cheap, or a joker, or you will drive people away from your website.
The sixth thing you must learn is Video S.E.O. This is an emerging opportunity, a fresh field of knowledge, and the sky is the limit if you learn it well. Every day there are more video hosting sites popping up on the web. Take advantage of as many as you can, but always go with the big boys like You Tube and Yahoo Video, as your first choices. Learning how to optimize your keywords or phrases to your video will get you high page ranking fast. There are other secrets that work also, which hopefully you will discover as you learn, and some of them are essential and still kept somewhat hush-hush right now.
The seventh thing you must learn is Social Marketing or as it is also called ‘social networking’. There are lots of sites on the net that cater to this area, and they are great tools that you must learn to use, like Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, LinkIn, related blogs, forums, and so many more that you will literally go crazy as you try to keep up with them all!
The eighth and final thing you must learn is Time Management. I say final, only for this article, as the subjects in this article are, and never will be fully examined – as they are forever evolving. Time management is a must! You must dedicate yourself to the task if you want to get to that place of ‘passive income’. Passive income can only come from sustained and ‘active effort’. If you are not prepared to sacrifice TV time and other recreations you may enjoy, you will not succeed. For it requires great focus and concentration to research and gather information, assimilate and understand it, develop the skills that come from this effort, and then to apply them all again and again, constantly tweaking them, until the money starts to flow into your account.
This is when you will begin to see how it all starts to come together like a tapestry. You are the Weaver of the tapestry. Become a master weaver and when the tapestry is finished you will step back and look at a picture of a gold mine!

Choosing your CPA Offer
Now, there are many different types of CPA offers that you can promote. For example, there are offers that require the individual to complete a long form application. Your payouts will be higher for longer forms, so the offer must be enticing. Your lead may have to supply personal information like their address, credit card info and other details that usually have to verified.
There are pay per lead offers, where the customer just has to submit their email address and or zip code and you get paid. Usually these are trial offers and products, where, after you get people to sign up, gives you a payout.
The Most Common Types Of CPA Offers
- The Short Form. These usually contain 3-4 fields that must be filled out.
- The Long Forms. Obviously, this will be more than just 4+ fields for an individual to fill out.
- A Multiple Pager. Usually a minimum of 2 pages of required information.
- The Sales Based Offer. Where the person has to look at different items available and actually make a purchase or two.
The short form, which generally just requires a name and email/zip code submit, are the easiest conversions. These usually pay $1 – $2 each. Now that may not sound like much money, but whatever you do promote as a CPA affiliate, you need to send traffic to the offer.
Let’s say you send 1,000 people to your offer. Now all they have to do is submit their email and zip, pretty easy. If you get a 15% conversion rate, that’s an easy $150 – $300.
If you promote the long form, the multi -page, or sales based CPA offers, your traffic has to be extremely well targeted in order for you to make conversions and make a profit. But do not be discouraged, many people are doing it, and making big bucks.
Be Aware Of The Restrictions
Sometimes there are very specific conditions attached as to how you can promote CPA offers. Each CPA offer carries different restriction, so be sure to understand what you can and cannot do to get sign ups. Because if you give the CPA network any reason to, they will disallow all of those completed sign ups, and you will be left with nothing, and possibly banned.
Are you allowed to incentive your traffic? This is when you offer an individual a bonus if they fill out, or complete the offer.
Other offers may specifically say that you are not allowed to do any email marketing. You may not be allowed to do any PPC – Pay Per Click for certain keywords, or, use certain words or phrases, such as ‘free’, in your offer.
Your Affiliate Manager
I would suggest that it is probably a good idea to talk with your affiliate manager before starting your CPA campaign. Since they have been at this for awhile, they will probably have some tips and suggestions to help you to succeed. Remember, it is their interest that you do well. The more info they have about what you are doing, the more insights they will be able to offer you.
But, if you do have a method you do not want everyone to know about, be sure to keep some facts to yourself. In other words, you want them to do most of the talking.
Bottom line: if you do have any doubts about any methods you intend to use, talk to them.
As you develop a relationship with them, just make sure that you don’t bother them unnecessarily. They are working with many other affiliates at the same time.
Don’t Strike Out!
I really can’t stress this enough, always make sure that you read,understand and are following the Terms Of Service. Each CPA Network may vary there TOS a little. So don’t assume anything.
Do not give them any reasons not pay you your commissions.

It just had to be the first ‘real’ post on the Blogging to the Bank blog so lets cut to the chase and talk about how to make money from your blog. Millions of people across the globe own blogs, some of them know they can make money from their blogs and some of them do not.
The humble blog started out as an online diary, a way that ordinary people could express their thoughts online and establish their web presence. Some blogs have made people famous and some blogs have gotten people arrested. The blog has evolved and developed into so much more in the last couple of years though, and now a blog can be nearly anything you want it to be; an online store, a magazine website, a salespage, a membership site or just a blog! This is largely thanks to the emergence of wordpress and the various plugins and templates that have been developed over the years. All of these improvements and new features make it easier for people like you and me to own our own blogs and profit from them, so lets look at three real down and dirty tactics that will make you money with your blog!
1. Google Adsense
This is the fastest way to generate some income from your site, but let me warn you up front, you’re not going to make a lot of money with this method. Its just a real quick way to get started.
Google adsense is a program ran by Google where you put some code on your site which allows Google to place content relevant ads on your site. Every time a visitor clicks on one of those adverts you get a few cents. There are various rules to this program and requirements that your website has to meet (having a privacy policy, not telling visitors to click adverts, placing the adverts in a certain manner) but this is a program you can sign up to very quickly at google.com. It doesn’t matter how much traffic you do or you don’t have, Google doesn’t care, as long as you have some where to put the ads, you can do Google Adsense. It won’t make you the kind of money you need to quit your job but its a start!
2. Sell Advertising Space
This is one of the simplest and easy ones to do. Now before you can sell advertising space you want your blog to be getting a bit of traffic. You don’t need thousands of visitors a day, but the more visitors you have, the more you can charge for advertising. To start off with, I’d recommend joining a couple of forums like sitepoint.com and digitalpoint.com and looking through the “advertisers” section in the market place. There you can see what kind of prices are being charged on websites with or without traffic. So for example, if a website with 20k visitors a day is selling a “text link ad” for $100 a month and your site only gets a thousand visitors a day, then for a similar ad, you should be charging less than $100 a month.
You get the idea.
Go to these marketplaces and see what advertising space is popular with people looking to advertise. Make sure you do your research and find a good price point. Once you have done that, post an offer to sell advertising space yourself. Remember to post your site’s stats up and be honest about your traffic numbers and where possible provide proof.
Make sure you don’t let advertisers pay for too many months in advance. The more traffic your site gets, the better Pagerank you receive, the more you can charge for advertising. Once you have mastered all this you can join various ad networks that can make the whole process easier, pay you on a performance basis or simply get you in front of a larger marketplace.
Some blogs make thousands of dollars a month with advertising in many different obscure niches. The best bit about this, it takes virtually no work to maintain to keep the money pouring into your Paypal and bank account!
3. Affiliate Marketing
If you’ve got a loyal readership or if your blog is getting a reasonable amount of visitors then you might want to write a few posts recommending certain services and products and then provide a link to that product’s website. Of course the link you will provide will be a cleverly disguised affiliate link which will then allow you to make a commission on any purchases made by the visitors that visited that site through your link. You don’t want to make every post an advert though encouraging people to buy products. Make sure you give honest recommendations so as to maintain your integrity with your readership ad build trust. You might also want to try and build an email list using your blog so as you can email your subscribers from time to time with updates on your blogs and affiliate promotions.
4. Write Review Posts
I personally love this idea. There are hundreds and thousands of companies out there looking for people in the “blosophere” to write about their products and websites. They are so desperate for bloggers to talk about them they have even started paying them to do it! And now there are websites that put companies and bloggers together so that bloggers can get paid for a post they make about a company.
Basically you add your blog profile to one of these sites and companies in your niche or market may contact you and ask you to write a blog post in exchange for a value of money. How much money you get paid depends on your Pagerank and how many visitors you get to your site etc etc. Some people make $40 a post while others make $6000 a post. Alternatively, there is another site (payperpost.com) which allows companies to state what they are looking for and what they will pay, and bloggers can take them up on their offers as long as their blog meets the criteria laid down by the company in the campaign description. Try and not over do it with review posts etc though, as again you’ll lose the trust and goodwill of your readership.
So there are four of the most popular things you can do to make money with your blog. Some you can do today and see results with today, and some that take a little longer. If you’re a smart cookie, you’ll have noticed a trend in all of the techniques I have mentioned. The more traffic your site has, the more money you can make. That really will be the key to your success. You can still make money with a little traffic, and ten invest that little bit of money into generating more traffic. Once you get that traffic you can start charging more and making more money and then suddenly you are in profit. It doesn’t happen overnight, it might take a month or two of work, but it is doable and people are doing it every day.
It doesn’t matter if your blog isn’t the best, keep it simple and get some dam content up on it! Worry about tweaking it and making it uber cool later! Just build some backlinks and get some traffic to that thing!
